About Me
Hi everyone!
My name is Johanna. I am a media professional with a passion for sustainability, especially sustainable clothing. Over the years, the way I purchase, wear and interact with clothing has change drastically. The more I learn about the social and environmental impacts of the fashion industry, the more I am motivated to change my habits for the better.
Clothing is something so integral to our lives I think we often forget to consider where it comes from and the impact it has. I created What’s the Stitch to demonstrate that it’s possible to love fashion and express yourself through clothing while still being sustainable. I’m excited to share my knowledge and also learn from you all!
The Campaign
What’s the Stitch began as a senior honors thesis project for my Bachelors in Media and Journalism Communication at Colorado State University. It was partially a challenge for myself, but also a learning experience for everyone watching along. I limited my wardrobe to just 14 items for 14 days starting on October 22, 2018 to experience having a very minimal wardrobe and demonstrate that it’s still possible to express your style with less clothing. I provided updates with daily photos and videos throughout the campaign. I also shared some of the information I’ve learned about the fashion industry, tips and tricks on how to start making your wardrobe more sustainable, and other fun video content!
The beauty of daily video was that I was able interact with viewers throughout the campaign. If you have any questions, are curious about a topic, or would like my take on something to do with the fashion industry, let me know on Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, or by email (whatsthestitchcampaign@gmail.com).
